This document, of great cultural value and produced in the 1980s, provides an overview of the folk music of Euskal Herria, as well as its instruments, their functions and variations. These instruments served to case the Basque folk music that remained alive in the different regions and corners of the Basque Country.
It is the result of a journey through the villages of the Basque Country during 1984 and 1985. A journey during which the documentary’s makers met brilliant musicians and discovered indigenous music which, although old and little-known, was still vibrant and fresh.
To produce this audiovisual documentary, they contacted musicians who knew their instruments inside out. These musicians had learnt to play in the early 20th century, having in turn learnt from previous generations.
This work, produced over 40 years ago, has been re-released on DVD, this time enhanced with subtitles to make it easier to understand.
